Eindhoven Airport today signed a European agreement committing to reducing airport CO2 emissions to zero. During the annual ACI Europe Congress in Cyprus, a total of 194 airports across 24 European countries signed the NetZero2050 resolution to achieve this reduction by no later than 2050. The collective commitment signifies an important step in climate action on the part of the European aviation sector.

Eindhoven Airport’s ambitions extend beyond the agreement in the resolution: the Brainport-region airport thinks it feasible to reduce its CO2 emissions to zero by as early as 2030. With this in mind, the airport is already pursuing the use of green electricity and green gas. The next step is to make mobility at the airport more sustainable.

Earlier this week, for the sixth time in a row, the airport achieved the highest possible level in the ACI Europe’s Carbon Accreditation Programme: Neutrality. This certification affirms that Eindhoven Airport is currently operating at carbon-neutral, as a prelude to becoming a zero-emissions airport. With today’s resolution in Cyprus, by 2050, participating European airports will have spared 3.46 million tonnes of CO2 in total. The resolution is ratified by the UNFCCC, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
