Celebrating 90 years; Eindhoven Airport, Eindhoven Air Base and Eindhoven Aero Club Motor Aviation organize various actions and festivities

On 10 September the airport in Eindhoven will celebrate its 90th anniversary. Eindhoven Airport, Eindhoven Air Base and the Eindhoven Aero Club Motor Aviation, which have been using the airport for decades, are happy to celebrate this milestone. Of course we will do this with passengers, partners, employees and local residents. With its civil, military and recreational air traffic, the airport is rooted in the region it serves, past and present. Various campaigns and festivities are held throughout the year. From, for example, a drawing contest for children to a VIP reception for passengers and an exhibition for neighbors. You will soon read more about these and more actions on our site and social media channels.

Roel Hellemons, CEO of Eindhoven Airport: "Entrepreneur Anton Philips, the municipality of Eindhoven and Albert Plesman, founder and the first president of KLM, were at the cradle of the establishment of Eindhoven Airport 90 years ago. The need to connect Eindhoven, as one of the most important cities in the country, with other cities was the main reason for this. In the meantime, the airport has built up a rich history as the home base for civil, military and recreational/sports traffic. The airport has come of age. Meeting the need to connect Eindhoven and the surrounding region with other countries, cities and regions was, is and will remain the starting point. We are proud of the airport and look forward to the future in which the region, sustainability and connection are central."

Colonel Jorrit de Gruijter, Commander of Eindhoven Air Base: "90 years ago, the importance of an airport for the development of a region was already recognized. With the words 'The South will be freed from its isolation', the airport was opened in 1932. What started with a modest number of aircraft has grown into the second largest airport in the Netherlands. Eindhoven Air Base is a military airport with Eindhoven Airport as its largest civilian co-user. 90 years later we can justifiably conclude that the south has been brought out of its isolation and the region has developed. The air base has its place in this. From Eindhoven Air Base we transport military personnel and cargo to mission areas. And we provide aid to areas of high need; worldwide. In addition, we take care of the opening of the airfield for military and civilian air traffic."

Herman de Vries, President Eindhoven Aero Club Motorcycling: ""On September 28, 1932, a new motor flying club is founded at Welschap Airport, the Noord-Brabant Aeroclub. In the following years we have experienced the growth of the airport and have made the transition to the Eindhovense Aero Club Motorvliegen that we are today. As a flying club we offer the region the opportunity to get acquainted with the recreational flying sport in an accessible way. We are proud that we, as a flying club, have been co-owners of Eindhoven Air Base since 1932 and that, as a result, many enthusiastic pilots have been able to realize their dream of becoming pilots."
